A Shorty but a Goody
Good morning y'all. Hope this newsletter finds everyone well. These last two weeks have involved some cooking, some winter-y activities, and a whole lot of watching Twin Peaks.
What's For Dinner
We're making a triumphant return to this subheading. This past fortnight included Nat's birthday where I made them a whole spread. Despite literally working in a bakery, I have never been, nor will I ever self describe as a baker. There are just too many rules and ways to really fuck it all up. However, I made a red velvet birthday cake that bangs.

Hitting the Slopes
I tried it. I liked it! Crazy.

Nat and I ran up to Vermont as part of their birthday celebrations and went cross country skiing in Craftsbury, VT. I had never been before and am usually very intimidated by outdoors-y things because whatever level of fitness I somehow think I have in my head, never actually matches what my body ends up doing. But this was great! I did eat total shit several times but I also got back up, so a wins a win. My knees are a gorgeous rainbow of black and blue to prove I did it.

Quick to the Draw
While Nat and I have been tearing through all of Twin Peaks, I've been doodling and trying to practice some figure drawing. The problem while trying to draw from tv is that everyone's moving around so you've got to have a great memory or be really fast, neither of which I have. These are far from perfect but I've actually really enjoyed trying to go fast because I usually sit with a reference image right next to whatever I'm doing and have unlimited time to scrutinize. It's been an unexpectedly good exercise in being confident and gestural.

CYL
rec-o-roonis
a song i'm loving:
- Lost in Yesterday - Tame Impala
a movie i watched:
- Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992). I know it's all I've talked about but boy oh boy does this whole universe slap and this movie was icing on the cake. I can't get too much into it as there are several readers who have started their own Twin Peaks journeys, but I was not expecting the prequel movie to a fairly quirky broadcast tv series to be so dark and intense. The acting performances were top notch, give Sheryl Lee her mfing flowers. Also this was the delectable kind of horror where it's like they set up the shot too wide so you're scooching in being like am I seeing what I think I'm seeing?. 5 stars no notes.
a book i'm reading:
- We're still chugging along on Circe by Madeline Miller
