Globalization at its Finest
Happy Friday friends! While you read this highly globalized edition about post-war copy machines, halloumi cheese, and Irishmen, I'll be at the dentist's office with Nat while they get their wisdom teeth out. We are open to hearing any of your recovery tips and tricks, as well as your best jell-o based recipes.
What's for Dinner
Resurrecting this segment to bring you this chickpea, sweet potato, grilled halloumi bowl I made last week - banger. Everyone's gotta get into grilled halloumi.

Also, made challah french toast because Amy stayed over Monday and Tuesday. All of the Boston girlies do have to make their way down to Exodus for this challah I fear.

Gardening Ho(e)s
Huge update on the home gardening front: tomatoes are coming in! Everything else we've planted has been mostly eaten by rabbits and squirrels but the tomatoes are going very strong.

Ink Inc.
On Wednesday evening I took a risograph printing class with New Impressions Studio in Somerville. Cannot recommend this studio highly enough. The teachers we're so excited to be teaching folks about this medium, extremely helpful in helping with design creation, and were very cool and fun to talk to. If you want to take any kind of printing media class check out their summer offerings.
This was a very cool intro class into what risograph printing is, and how it can be used as a medium. We started out with a little history lesson, allow me to info dump on y'all:
- RISO, Inc. is a Japanese printer and ink company founded in 1946.
- The company developed a soy-based ink to offset costs post-WWII while traditional emulsion inks were expensive and difficult to source.
- The machine itself looks like a photocopier, but functions like a screenprinter. The machine creates a master copy or stencil of your design which gets wrapped around a colored ink drum. Colors get printed one at a time and the paper must be fed back through the machine each time a new color or new layer is added.

This being an intro class, I came kind of wildly unprepared and ended up using a few film photos to make a print with and chose just one color at one opacity. I love the result but if given the chance I think I would try to layer colors or try scanning in a hand drawn image.

If anyone would like a print, hmu. I have 10 of them I don't know what to do with.
Poetic Justice
Amy came down early this week so that we could go see Hozier at Fenway. We went for night 2 and had a fab time even though it was well over 100 degrees in those grandstands. In honor of some tweens in the row behind us saying loud and proud that those who weren't singing along to Too Sweet weren't real fans, here are my top 5 fav Hozier lyrics ranked. Please leave yours in the comments.
#5 - The entire second verse of "Take Me To Church"
#4 - Honey, you're familiar like my mirror years ago
Idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on its sword
Innocence died screaming, honey, ask me I should know
I slithered here from Eden just to sit outside your door - "From Eden"
#3 - 'Cause with my mid-youth crisis all said and done
I need to be youthfully felt 'cause, God, I never felt young - "Jackie and Wilson"
#2 - Do you know, I could break beneath the weight
Of the goodness, love, I still carry for you?
That I'd walk so far just to take
The injury of finally knowing you - "Unknown / Nth"
#1 - I'd be the voice that urged Orpheus when her body was found
I'd be the choiceless hope in grief that drove him underground
I'd be the dreadful need in the devotee that made him turn around
And I'd be the immediate forgiveness in Eurydice
Imagine being loved by me - "Talk"

a movie i watched:
- Not a movie once again, but Nat and I are watching Andor and I'm really liking it. Looooove Diego Luna. If anyone has not seen Y Tu Mamá También (2001) with Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal - do yourself the favor and put that in your queue. I watched this as a freshman in high school and I feel like it altered the course of my life.
